Hello! My name is Susanna. I am an avid runner, hiker, backpacker, or to sum it up, lover of all activities that involve putting one foot in front of the other, preferably in the great outdoors.
What is The Life Peripatetic?
I recently decided to leave my professional 9-5 job behind and complete a thru-hike of the Pacific Crest Trail in 2016. As many a thru-hiker has done before me, I started a blog to chronicle my experiences in preparing for, planning, and ultimately trekking 2,650 miles from the Mexico border to Canada through California, Oregon, and Washington. Beyond my PCT journey, I plan to write about all things backpacking, as well as other adventures and helpful tips, tricks, and advice for running, hiking, and otherwise traversing the world on foot.
“A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” — Lao Tzu
Peripatetic means “one who walks from place to place; an itinerant traveler”. It also refers to followers of Aristotle or Aristotelian philosophy. Legend has it that he would walk about as he spoke or when he was instructing others. For me, running, walking, hiking, or other means of exploring the world on foot is not just a way to exercise or travel or even to connect with nature, but also to look inward and get to know myself. To learn to be present and live fully in every moment by, literally and metaphorically, taking one step at a time.
Join me on this journey and please contact me with any questions or feedback. I’d love to hear from you!
